Stone - Appeal for Information - E-Scooter Rider |
||
|
We are appealing for information following a number of reports regarding an e-scooter being ridden in a dangerous and anti-social manner around Stone Town Centre.
The e-scooter was last seen between 7:30pm and 7:45pm on Wednesday 14 October 2026, travelling from Newcastle Road onto Crown Street, Stone. Witnesses reported the scooter being ridden at speed, including being ridden towards oncoming traffic, causing concern to members of the public and other road users.
The rider is described as a male, approximately 5ft 4in tall, dressed entirely in black and wearing a face covering. We appreciate this description is limited and vague; however, someone within the local community may recognise the individual or be aware of who is responsible.
We would ask anyone with information, or who may have CCTV, dashcam or doorbell footage showing the rider in the area at the time, to please get in touch so that the necessary action can be taken.
It is also worth highlighting that, with very limited exceptions for authorised rental schemes, privately owned e-scooters cannot be legally used on public roads, cycle lanes, pavements or other public places. Riders may commit offences relating to insurance, licence requirements and careless or dangerous riding. If the rider is under the age of 16, parents or guardians may also potentially be held responsible for certain road traffic offences.
Anyone with information regarding the identity of the rider, or who has CCTV, dashcam or doorbell footage from the area between 1930 and 1945 on 14 October 2026, is asked to contact 06583@staffordshire.police.uk quoting incident 817 of 14 October 2026.
Alternatively, information can be provided anonymously via Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
Please include as much detail as possible, including the time and location of any sightings. Any information, no matter how small it may seem, could assist in identifying the rider and preventing further incidents.
